Athia and I hiked parts of the Baker Trail and North Country Trail this weekend. We met up with some of the Baker Trail Gurus like Dewaine, Patty, Donna, Sarah and Ruth on Saturday morning for a two day hike.
Our trek took us 15 miles on Saturday. Then we slept at a cabin in Cook Forest for the night. Sunday’s hike was about 10 miles before we made it to our car.
Janine and I are working hard to make sure our girls are ready for the life that hits you after high school, so I am happy to report that Athia was a trooper the whole time.
It was a lot of mountains and valleys, and with the help of a few snickers bars… I did a great job without complaining. 😉 Athia did much better than me on the hike, and ended the trek with a smile… I think. She was up with Dewaine at the head of the pack so I couldn’t see her very well.
We passed an enormous beaver dam on Saturday. I think it is the largest one I have seen so far. It was pretty awesome to witness. We also passed by a clear-cut section of forest. We have been looking for a photo of clear cutting for the game for several years, so I am happy that we now have one … but also happy that it took us three years of searching to find one.
The folks at the Baker Trail are all in for a Baker Trail Area Starter Deck, so the girls and I will get started on that in a few weeks. Patty, Dewaine, Donna and Ruth will all be cards in the game. Should be a fun project. Now I just need to find those old photos of the Baker Trail we have taken over the years to make some special region cards.
Until next time,
Captain of the sore legs
